A lawyer for the Chilean Football Federation named Eduardo Carlezzo allegedly submitted proof that Ecuador had broken the rules, according to Mexican news station TV Azteca. In order to register for the game, the national team used Byron Castillo, a player who was born in Colombia and does not have Ecuadorian nationality. In order to have Chile's team replace Ecuador's at the FIFA World Cup in 2022, Chile filed a lawsuit against Ecuador to FIFA. Chile claimed earlier in 2022 that Ecuador secured a World Cup spot by utilising an ineligible player. In games where Byron Castillo played, Chile claimed that Ecuador scored a total of six points against them. FIFA, though, denied Chile's accusations over the summer. On Tuesday, human rights activists encouraged more World Cup sponsors in Qatar to back demands for payments to migrant workers and their families for alleged abuses. Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International, and FairSquare said in a joint statement that four of the 14 FIFA corporate partners and World Cup sponsors — AB InBev, Adidas, Coca-Cola, and McDonald's — have expressed their support for monetary compensation. The rights activists claimed that the other 10 have not publicly shown their solidarity or complied with requests to talk about "tournament-related violations."
